Q: Does anyone believes that the media has some role to play in causing our present financial difficulties ,by giving day to day negative aspect of the financial markets ,and concentrating on the failure of the financial institution, in stead of encouraging the public to be optimistic and positive about the future of the market.
A: The media will jump onto any story, good or bad, that will get people watching or reading. I'm sure that if they kept their nose out of situations such as we have at the moment, things would improve much quicker. One recent example was the Northern Rock panic a year or so ago. The queues of folks withdrawing money at that time time, was purely through fear inspired by the media - mostly television. Customers who had investments with that company - but did nothing about it - are better off now than they were before.
